Problem Behaviors in Children: Understanding and Prevention

There is no individual to be sacrificed in education.
Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK

On the 100th anniversary of our Republic, we are happy and proud to share this book with our readers as part of the 100 books project. The early childhood period is a critical phase in an individual's life where social and emotional foundations are laid and personality is shaped. Experiences during this period deeply affect the future lives of children and shape their social adaptation processes. However, problem behaviors encountered during this period pose significant barriers that can challenge parents, teachers, and child development specialists, negatively affecting the child's development. This book aims to provide a detailed examination of the definition, classification, and causes of problem behaviors, while also presenting strategies based on scientific principles for dealing with these behaviors. In addition to examining problem behaviors, the book also brings to light the social, psychological, and biological factors underlying these behaviors. The book addresses the challenges faced by children and families during early childhood, with a focus on social skills training and child-centered strategies for preventing problem behaviors, adopting a solution-focused approach. The primary purpose of creating this book is to serve as a concrete and effective guide for professionals and families facing problem behaviors. It is designed to be useful for experts in the field as well as for everyone interested in child development and education. We hope that our readers will become more aware and prepared for the behavioral challenges they may encounter in child development with the information they gain from this book. We owe our thanks to the Rector of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, Mr. Prof. Dr. Nuri Aydın, for providing the necessary facilities and infrastructure for this book to meet its readers, to the Publishing Boards, and to all the children of the world to whom this book is dedicated and who remind us of our responsibilities, deserving a good life and future on this earth.
