Landscape Irrigation Design

The book "Landscape Irrigation Design" has been prepared as a textbook for the irrigation design courses that I have been teaching since 2001 at the Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa Faculty of Forestry, in the Department of Landscape Architecture, The Forestry Vocational School Irrigation Technology Program, and the Department of Forest Engineering. The text is a compilation of literature on irrigation, information and suggestions from irrigation system designers and contractors. Each chapter has been read by non-professionals, including my wife, academic colleagues, and irrigation practitioners, to ensure the text's clarity. Suggestions were considered, and unclear expressions were rewritten.

The book adopts an Anglo-Saxon approach and provides theoretical knowledge to the extent that would be useful for practitioners. The irrigation design method followed in practice has been taken into account. In this context, irrigation product catalogs, performance tables of irrigation products in catalogs, pipe pressure loss tables, etc., have been used.

I express my gratitude to my wife, Aynur Çelik, for her understanding and contributions during the preparation process of the book.

I extend my thanks to the faculty members who reviewed the book's chapters: Prof. Dr. Ö. Bülend Seçkin, Prof. Dr. Mesut Hasdemir, Prof. Dr. Ömer Karaöz, Prof. Dr. Ferhat Gökbulak, Prof. Dr. Ünal Akkemik, Prof. Dr. Mukden Uğur from Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa Faculty of Engineering, and Lecturer A. İlker Esin from Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, Vocational School of Forestry.

I appreciate the efforts of Hakan Topatan, the research assistant of our Department of Forest Construction and Transportation, who drew the figures and arranged the page layout, and Dr. Anıl Akay, who prepared some tables.

Special thanks to Landscape Architect Ferda Üzümcüoğlu, who provided valuable suggestions by reviewing the book, Landscape Architect Ümit Karaman, whose information and suggestions were highly beneficial, Mechanical Engineers Aydın Acemi, and Dr. Mehmet Kaya from Standart Pompa firm for reviewing the pump section, Uğur Noyan and Nuri Anarat from SGS Company for providing product information and their contributions during the preparation of the sample project, İlker Akbaş from Hunter Industries who generously provided the book "Irrigation" to our faculty, to M.  Özgür Tunç from the Hunter Turkey firm, and Kerem Aksaray from Rain Bird Turkey firm for their valuable assistance in obtaining permissions for the figures in the publications of their companies. I also express my gratitude to David Simpson for his support in international publisher relations.

I hope the book will be useful for students, practitioners, and those interested in the subject.
