Birth and Postpartum Period for Midwives

Midwifery is one of the oldest professions in the world, responsible for providing necessary care to mothers and new-borns before, during and after birth. In addition, it should not be forgotten that midwives have key roles in achieving the ideal of a healthy society and healthy generations. By the help of this book, midwives will take new steps to improve themselves regarding birth and the postpartum period.

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, “It must be believed that everything we see in the world is the work of women.” With his words, he emphasizes the importance of women in society. Midwives are indispensable for healthy and strong women and healthy generations to have a healthy start. Midwives have a primary role and responsibility in empowering women in our country.

Birth and the postpartum period are examined in this book, which is prepared as a basic resource for all students, health professionals and midwives who witness the first breath at birth, support women, babies, and their families during this process. It is also important as it is a book prepared for the 100th anniversary of our Republic.

We would like to express our respect to all our writers who contributed to the creation of this work, and to the Rectorate of Istanbul University - Cerrahpaşa, who supported the publication of the work.
