Active and Passive Control of Structures: Matlab Simulink Applications

Like every mechanical system, it is possible to reduce the vibrations occurring in structures and therefore protect the structures and all the equipment and goods inside them. For this purpose, passive and active control systems can be used. While control is carried out with passive control systems without the need for external energy, time-dependent variable control force can be produced in active control with the help of actuators.

In the content of this book, of which we are the editors, after a chapter defining structural control systems, dynamic modeling examples are concluded in the next two chapters, and then there are chapters on tuned mass dampers and tuned liquid dampers. Finally, sections on active control systems are presented. As the editors of the book, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to this book as an author.

In Turkey, which is an earthquake country, it will be possible to ensure the safety of life and property and to maintain life and building use with a high level of comfort by increasing the use of passive and active control systems. We hope that this work will enable our strong Turkey to become even stronger with innovative methods on the 100th anniversary of our Republic, and strengthen its pioneering and rule-making position in the world, while being independent from outside in science, technology and industry.

We are proud to take part in the '100 Books for the 100th Anniversary of the Republic' project created at Istanbul University - Cerrahpaşa in order to crown the 100th anniversary of the establishment of our Republic, which was founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as a result of the national struggle and sovereignty.

We commemorate our Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our martyrs and veterans with respect and mercy.
